Namek has been destroyed not once, but TWICE! supposedly before it was destroyed there were female nameks, but then a horrible storm wiped all life from the planet, trees, animals, even the namekian race, all except for one namek who was known as Guru. This namek lived for thousands of years and eventually evolved to make the all male namekian race by vomiting up eggs. He also created the namekian dragon balls which grant three wishes but they must be said in Namekian. with this, he wished back the plants and animals. the second time it was destroyed was by Friezer's hand who wiped out all the namkes but the earth dragon balls brought them back to life and their planet was resurrected the next year with earth balls again, the third year the dragon balls were used to transport the nameks to the planet.

Guru died during Frieza's attack from natural causes, he was over tens of thousands of years old and lived his life to the fullest, so he instowed his power into a new Namek who was given the title Guru after wards.

Namek has strange plantlife, tall tooth pick like trees with perfectly round tips of leaves on them the size of beach balls. these trees are the crops of the Nameks though wha they are for is never mentioned in series. there is no food to be found here as Nameks survive souly on water so any race visiting must bring their own food or prepare to starve. this planet, like Earth is mostly water with small to medium sized islands. The namekian race is very, very peaceful, only a small handful have chosen the warrior's path so it is ill equiped to fight off a invasion.
